Chiller rooms and freezer rooms: what changes?

Chilled and frozen storage serve different purposes. This guide compares the rooms, their operating requirements and the products they are designed to store.

Chiller rooms and freezer rooms: what changes?

Chilled storage

Chiller rooms preserve products that need cooling without freezing, including fresh produce, dairy and prepared food. The original guide describes a typical room range of 0–8°C; the correct setpoint depends on the product and its storage instructions.

Frozen storage

Freezer rooms generally operate at −18°C or below for frozen goods and longer-term storage. They need insulation and refrigeration equipment designed for the greater temperature difference.

Choose around the stock

Using a chiller for frozen goods allows thawing; freezing fresh products can damage them. Define the product mix, required temperature and holding period before selecting a room.
